THE PROJECT: FutureGen is a $1.5 billion prototype coal-fired power plant that developers - a consortium of coal and power companies working with the U.S. government - say will produce nearly no air pollution. Carbon dioxide will be stored beneath a layer of bedrock, not released to the air.
